EVERY DAY - EVERYDAY
2024.12.21 - 2025.02.01
Space Fountain presents <EVERY DAY-EVERYDAY>, a solo exhibition by the artist Im Ji Bin that explores everyday life's value. It presents new value by transforming the daily lives of modern people into artistic spaces. The work, which displays labor-intensive, repetitive forms overlapping each other, transforms everyday life from a difficult and tedious time into a meaningful moment filled with gratitude and joy. Artist Im Ji Bin focused on the desires of modern people within the enormous shackles of consumer society. At the artist's early stage, he explored ways to create new economic value by combining brand logos with various popular culture icons. The logic of capitalism was visualized by putting a luxury logo on a ball-shaped toy as a representative symbol. In addition, horns were added to the friendly bear shape to highlight the desires and reality of modern people living in a consumer society.
In this exhibition, the artist shows the process of transforming everyday life into art by focusing on the value of labor. The artist's work, created through endless repetition of the daily process of forming, breaking, and grinding, is like the weight of modern people's lives. Works that seem the same every day but show different diversity show the value of everyday life, which can be beautiful even if it is not exceptional. The work that captures the moment of falling and getting up in slow motion reminds us of our appearance of facing and overcoming difficulties. Amid an overabundance of images that are copied and made virtual, the value of art created by hand and the beauty of everyday life created through it lead to deep reflection on the nature of human existence in a society centered on advanced technology.
Artist Im Ji Bin is carrying out the 'EVERYWHERE Project' to share the value of art with more people. Large-scale works made of air balloons are revealed in guerilla form in various parts of the city where we live and communicate with the public. This exhibition also installs bare balloons to share the world of the work that transforms the desolate urban space into an extraordinary space filled with surprise and cheer. The concise text is written on the face like an advertising slogan and becomes a warm medium connecting high art and low art, pure art and popular culture, public space, and the private realm. Through the works armed with short words that convey our emotions, we share vivid energy and happy feelings. This exhibition will be an opportunity to reflect on how we constantly discover new values in our daily lives and create a vast world that connects culture and history through the valuable moments of each day through the artistic world of artist Im Ji Bin, born based on extreme manual labor.
